  1. There’s something fascinating about the structure of insects — the symmetry, the segmentation, the almost mechanical precision of their forms. In Geometric Insect Study I, I wanted to explore that idea by translating an organic subject into a controlled, geometric language.

This piece is built entirely from angular planes and faceted shapes, creating an almost origami-like interpretation of an insect form. The result sits somewhere between nature and design — recognisable, but abstracted into something more architectural.

The choice of colour was intentional. The vivid green acts as both a nod to the natural world and a way to amplify contrast against the darker background. It gives the painting a strong visual presence, allowing it to function as a statement piece within a space rather than simply a representation of a subject.

Symmetry plays a key role in the composition. By mirroring forms across a central axis, the structure becomes more deliberate and almost engineered, reinforcing the tension between organic inspiration and constructed design.

This work is part of an ongoing exploration into geometric interpretations of natural forms — a series that looks at how structure, repetition, and simplification can transform familiar subjects into something new.

The painting was created using acrylic on canvas, building up layers of flat colour and sharp edges to maintain clarity in the geometric forms. Each section was carefully planned to ensure balance across the composition while keeping the visual rhythm consistent throughout.

Geometric Insect Study I is intended to sit comfortably in modern interiors, creative workspaces, or collections that lean toward contemporary abstraction. It’s a piece that rewards both distance and close inspection — bold from afar, but detailed and structured up close.
